Your Emergency Plan Isn't the Problem—Your Preparation Is

Kelly Moore

Most schools have emergency plans—but far too many of them spend more time collecting dust than preparing staff for real emergencies. In this episode, we explore why simply having an Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) isn't enough. We discuss how standardized procedures, consistent training, realistic drills, and clear communication can dramatically improve a school's ability to respond when seconds matter.

We also examine recent school violence incidents, the importance of recognizing copycat threats, why communication with first responders and families is critical, and how emergency planning extends well beyond active shooter events to include weather emergencies, medical incidents, and everyday school safety challenges.
